The agreement will run until the end of the 2028 season. The announcement came after negotiations regarding the Concorde Agreement, which had been a hindrance to the agreement, were concluded between MotoGP organization, teams, and manufacturers. Ducati made the official announcement on Tuesday morning.

Behind the scenes, debunking market rumors.

The long delay in announcing the deal had raised questions about Marquez in some circles; however, according to Motorsport.com sources, the agreement between Ducati and Marquez was actually finalized months ago. The only reason for the delay was the ongoing Concorde negotiations between MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group, manufacturers, and teams. With this extension, Marquez will also undergo the 2027 regulatory changes under the Ducati banner; these changes include the removal of the rear lift kit, a reduction in engine displacement to 850cc, and the switch to Pirelli tires.

Championship performance and shoulder surgery

In the 2025 season, Marquez, competing with the Ducati Lenovo team, won his ninth Grand Prix and seventh MotoGP title overall, securing 11 Grand Prix and 16 Sprint victories in an 18-race calendar. However, he suffered a right shoulder injury in a crash with Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi in Indonesia that season and missed the last four races. This season, following his seventh shoulder surgery a month ago, he has achieved consecutive victories at Balaton Park and last Sunday in Brno. After the Brno victory, the Spaniard, showing positive signs regarding his shoulder recovery, is currently fourth in the overall standings, 40 points behind Bezzecchi. You can read about other important developments from the Brno race here.

Statements by Marquez and Dall'Igna

In a statement released by Ducati, Marquez expressed his feelings: “I am very happy to have renewed my contract with Ducati and I will continue to be a part of this family. When I decided to come here, I believed this was the most competitive project. They trusted me and together we built a relationship based on trust and collaboration. With this renewal, they once again gave me time and the calmness I needed to make the right decision.” Marquez also added, “As long as I am here, I will do everything I can to paint the future red again.”.

Ducati General Manager Luigi Dall'Igna emphasized that "Marquez has pushed the Desmosedici to the limits of performance and maximized every component of the engine," adding: "Trust: that's the foundation of the relationship between Ducati and Marc. He called us first, then he chose us. Today, we are happy to say that together we are building a redder future."“

Next step: Acosta expectation

According to sources, Ducati is expected to announce an agreement with Pedro Acosta in the coming hours. The two Spanish riders are planned to share the same garage in the 2027 season. Marquez will continue racing for Ducati from the 2026 season onwards at the age of 35; it is also reported that the contract includes clauses allowing for mutual termination under specific conditions.

Sources

Motorsport.com – All – News

Motorsport Week

Motorsport.com – All – Story

Ducati officially announced the contract extension of current world champion Marc Marquez until the end of the 2028 season on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
