Rachel Brookes, a familiar face on the Sky Sports Formula 1 team, announced her departure from the broadcaster after 17 years in a message she shared on the X platform on Wednesday, June 24. The 51-year-old British presenter stated that her departure was effective immediately and that she would focus on new projects awaiting her.<\/p>\n
Brookes stated in his official announcement: \u201cAfter many years with Sky, I am stepping into exciting new ventures and I am looking forward to what the future holds. I have left the Sky F1 team, but F1 is still in my heart and I will continue to be involved in the sport. I will keep you informed; in the meantime, see you at Silverstone!\u201d With these words, Brookes hinted that he will also be seen at the Silverstone circuit during the British Grand Prix next week.<\/p>\n
Brookes joined Sky Sports in 2009 as a freelance reporter. When the broadcaster took over the UK Formula 1 broadcasting rights from the BBC and became the exclusive broadcaster from the 2012 season onwards, Brookes became a permanent member of the F1 team. For 14 years, he was known for his media pen interviews, leaving viewers with memorable moments interviewed with many drivers, most notably Charles Leclerc and Liam Lawson.<\/p>\n
Brookes recently revealed that he was subjected to severe online harassment after directly questioning Max Verstappen about a potential collision with George Russell at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix. Speaking on his podcast, Road to Success, the host explained that he based his question on the assessment of a world champion like Nico Rosberg, while colleagues around him hesitated to ask the question. He also described the comments he received as "disgusting." Verstappen received a 10-second penalty for the incident.<\/p>\n
Brookes' departure comes just weeks after Sky Sports announced it had extended its contract to broadcast British Formula 1 races until at least the end of 2034. The current broadcasting agreement for Italy expires in 2032. Channel 4, which has held the free-to-air rights for the UK since 2019, is only allowed to broadcast the British Grand Prix live each year.<\/p>\n
