British racer Maria Costello, who was paralyzed after an accident during a Sidecar practice session at the Isle of Man TT, released a statement on her Facebook page on the morning of June 24. Costello described the past four weeks as 'the biggest test of her life' and shared her first comprehensive assessment of her recovery process.<\/p>\n
In his statement, Costello expressed his sincere gratitude to those who attended to him at the time of the accident and to the staff at Nobles Hospital who subsequently treated him. He noted that he was transferred from Nobles to Aintree and specifically thanked the surgeons, medical team, nurses, and paramedics at Waltham Centre, where he is currently receiving treatment. "There are incredible people taking care of me here," Costello said, also expressing his gratitude to his family, Alan and Dale, and his team. He also sent his best wishes to Shaun Parker, who was a passenger in the same accident and is recovering.<\/p>\n
Costello also openly expressed his gratitude for the financial support. His GoFundMe campaign has reached ninety percent of its \u00a3300,000 goal as of June 24th. Current BSB champion Kyle Ryde drew attention to the campaign by riding a monkey bike for charity before the BSB round held in Knockhill between June 19-21.<\/p>\n
Costello's practice crash was one of two major Sidecar incidents at this year's TT. Combined with the serious crash involving Ryan and Callum Crowe, it led officials to remove the Sidecar class from the 2026 TT schedule. The TT organization announced on June 11th that it has launched a formal review to determine whether the three-wheeled category can remain in the event in future years.<\/p>\n
