Aston Martin has only scored points once this season; that result was achieved thanks to Alonso gaining two places due to penalties given to the drivers ahead of him.

Alonso admitted he disagreed with the development decision.

The Spanish driver told media outlets, including Motorsport.com: “I didn’t agree with the decision to postpone development until the summer. But apparently there’s no money to bring in unlimited development like other teams. It’s actually surprising to see the FIA documents every Friday. Maybe these teams have a separate machine in the basement of their factory to print money.” Alonso emphasized that teams like McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull bring parts to the track as soon as they are ready, while Aston Martin chooses to implement them all at once as a large package.

Aston Martin's strategy was shaped by the vision of technical director Adrian Newey, who, due to his track record in Formula 1, holds significant influence within the team. While differing opinions were reportedly present, a firm, one-off update approach was adopted. Logistical costs were also a factor influencing this decision; since logistics expenses are now subject to a budget cap, airlifting large components like new track surfaces to distant runways represents a substantial cost.

AMR26 suffers from a fundamental design flaw.

Mike Krack, the general manager responsible for operations at the track, also made statements in Austria: “There are always differing opinions on the steps that can be taken and the budget that can be used. In the end, a decision is made. It's normal to have differing opinions in a team environment; however, once you reach a decision, you have to stand behind it 100 percent. You can't stand by it 80 percent and then go complain at the coffee machine. We made this decision and no matter how difficult it is, we have to stick to it.”.

The AMR26 is averaging three seconds behind its rivals on laps. Alonso made it clear that this situation cannot be resolved with a few tenths of a second of improvement: “Missing the shakedown in Barcelona, our poor first test in Bahrain, and the uncomfortable reality of not knowing if we would be able to finish the race in Australia… The decision was correct. Bringing in three or four centimeters of improvement in two Grand Prix races and still fighting at the back of the grid doesn’t change anything; we need a much bigger step.”.

It is noteworthy that the situation bears a resemblance to the MP4-18 process during Newey's time at McLaren. The MP4-18, repeatedly delayed during the 2003 season, could not be put on the track due to instability issues stemming from unpredictable aerodynamic interactions between the air vents and the chassis, and the team finished that year with an improved version of the previous car. The necessary radical changes were finally implemented at the 2004 Belgian GP. Newey, now both the top engineer and shareholder of Aston Martin, advocates for a similar radical intervention approach.

Source

www.motorsport.com

While Fernando Alonso questioned how other teams reconciled bringing new parts to every race with the budget cap during the Austrian GP weekend, Aston Martin saved its extensive development package for the summer months.

[4,84
666,137,412,667,136
post-1277","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-f1","category-slider","tag-adrian-newey","tag-aston-martin","tag-avusturya-gp","tag-f1-butce-tavani","tag-fernando-alonso
["GET
