Monster Energy Yamaha announced on Wednesday morning that Martin and Ai Ogura have signed two-year contracts. This announcement comes shortly after it was revealed on Tuesday that Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins will leave the team at the end of the season.

Yamaha assembles an ambitious lineup for a new era.

Yamaha Motor Racing General Manager Paolo Pavesio stated, "We are thrilled to welcome Jorge and Ai to the Yamaha Factory MotoGP Team for the new era in 2027." Regarding Martin, Pavesio said, "Adding names of this caliber to our team demonstrates our confidence in the project and our goals. Jorge has already proven that he has the speed, determination, and mentality to win in MotoGP and compete for the world championship." For Ogura, he commented, "His development over the last season and a half has been remarkable; it is a source of great pride to have a Japanese rider in the factory lineup.".

Martin largely lost his first season with Aprilia due to injury, putting him at a disadvantage in the critical decision-making process for the 2027 factory seats. Last year's contract dispute was also among the factors negatively impacting the process. Aprilia opted to place the Italian rider alongside Marco Bezzecchi, taking advantage of the availability of Ducati's two-time world champion Pecco Bagnaia. Yamaha, meanwhile, quickly began searching for a big name to replace Quartararo and turned to Martin.

Martin and Ogura are rivals in the championship race.

Martin regained the championship lead from Bezzecchi at the Assen race in the Netherlands last weekend; Ogura also secured his first major MotoGP trophy victory in the same race. Martin aims to repeat his feat of passing the number one badge to a new manufacturer, this time with Yamaha, following his championship win with Pramac Ducati in 2024. However, Ogura has moved up to fourth place in the championship race, trailing Martin by 25 points with half the season to go.

Yamaha hasn't won a single race since 2022; their best result this season with the new V4 engine was fifth place. Leading rider Quartararo is currently 14th in the overall standings. Martin, with the Aprilia RS-GP, has achieved his first sprint and grand prize victories, clearly demonstrating the potential the team will abandon in 2027. World Superbike champion Toprak Razgatlıoğlu appears to be the only Yamaha rider expected to transition from the 1000cc era to 2027. MotoGP will switch to 850cc machines from the 2027 season onwards, and Michelin tires will be replaced by Pirelli.

Source

www.crash.net

Jorge Martin, who currently leads the championship, will race for the Monster Energy Yamaha team from the 2027 season onwards.
