Leading the list are NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Ned Jarrett, who passed away on June 4th at the age of 93, and two-time champion Kyle Busch, who died on May 21st from sepsis caused by pneumonia; however, the total number of losses has reached eight.<\/p>\n<h2>Legendary figures and sudden losses.<\/h2>\n<p>Kyle Busch was a driver who competed in 762 races in the NASCAR Cup Series, achieving 62 wins and 395 top-10 finishes. The death of 41-year-old Busch sent shockwaves through the sports world. Ned Jarrett passed away of natural causes at his home in Newton, North Carolina; his family described him in their funeral announcement as \u201cNASCAR\u2019s oldest living champion.\u201d Born in Conover, North Carolina, Jarrett was a two-time NASCAR Grand National Series champion; in his 13-year career of 352 races, he recorded 50 wins and 239 top-10 finishes. Inducted into the International Motorsport Hall of Fame in 1991 and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011, Jarrett was also named one of NASCAR\u2019s 50 greatest drivers in 1998. He was also the father of former NASCAR drivers Dale Jarrett and Glenn Jarrett.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Biffle died in a plane crash on December 18th along with his wife Cristina, and children Emma and Ryder; three other people were among the seven victims. The Cessna 550 piloted by the 55-year-old Biffle crashed while landing at an airport near Charlotte at around 10:15 a.m. Biffle had 19 wins and 175 top-10 finishes in 515 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series; his last race in the series was the 2022 Geico 500. He also had 20 wins in the NASCAR O&#039;Reilly Auto Parts Series and 17 wins in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.<\/p>\n<h2>Other losses<\/h2>\n<p>Michael Annett died on December 22 at the age of 39; the cause of death was not disclosed. Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Annett raced for JR Motorsports from 2017 to 2021. He made 106 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and 95 top-10 finishes in 321 races in the Xfinity Series, losing his only victory at the NASCAR Racing Experience 300 at Daytona International Speedway in 2019. He retired from racing early in the 2021 season due to a stress fracture in his leg.<\/p>\n<p>Denny Hamlin&#039;s father, Dennis Hamlin, died at age 75 in December after being injured in a fire at his home. Nick Joanides died on December 5th at age 55, having recently made three starts in the ARCA West Series. Chase Pistone died on March 2nd in Mooresville, North Carolina, at age 42; he was the grandson of former NASCAR Cup driver \u201cTiger\u201d Tom Pistone.
