MotoGP will enter a new era in 2027 with the transition to 850cc, where all manufacturers will design their motorcycles from scratch. Independent structures like Gresini and VR46 are at a disadvantage in this process; both teams have announced that, due to their contracts, they can only provide one rider with a factory-supported Ducati, while the other will compete with a satellite motorcycle running on delayed updates. Tech3 team principal Guenther Steiner gave a clear answer to the question of whether both drivers in the 2027 lineup would be using factory-specific KTMs: \u2019Yes, absolutely. This was one of the things we focused on most during the negotiations.\u201c Steiner emphasized that the team is participating in the championship not just to compete, but to achieve tangible results, and described access to top-tier equipment as an indispensable part of this goal.<\/p>\n
Steiner acknowledged that producing enough new parts simultaneously for four KTM riders could be logistically challenging at times, but clarified that this wouldn't automatically relegate Tech3 to second place. \u2019Within reasonable limits, some compromises may be unavoidable. However, if one of our bikes has overtaken the factory team, the first rider to receive that update should be one of us. We haven\u2019t reached that point yet, but we are working hard to get there,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n
Tech3's 2027 rider choices have not yet been officially announced. Steiner's plan is to add one experienced rider and one rookie to the lineup. Luca Marini from HRC is being discussed as a leading candidate for the experienced seat, while Intact Moto2 teammates Senna Agius and Manuel Gonzalez are being considered for the rookie seat.<\/p>\n
When asked whether it was considered appropriate for a rookie rider to start with an old or inadequately updated motorcycle, Steiner replied, \u201cNo, we have to keep pushing forward; standing still will never get you anywhere.\u201d Regarding Agius and Gonzalez, he stated: \u201cThey are both strong riders; everyone knows that already. Choosing between them is extremely difficult because they don\u2019t have any major drawbacks.
