Fernando Alonso gave a sharp response to the question posed during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend: 'What will you do after your F1 career?' Despite the chronic problems with Aston Martin's 2026 car, the Spaniard emphasized that he has no intention of leaving the team, stating, 'If someone thinks we're going to give up now, they don't know my last 25 years at all.'.

One point in nine races.

Aston Martin has only managed to score 1 point in the first nine races of the season due to its radical 2026 car design and compatibility issues with the Honda power unit. This single point came thanks to Alonso, who moved up to 10th place in the Monaco Grand Prix due to post-race penalties given to other drivers. This situation has raised questions about Alonso's future in F1, as he will turn 45 this month.

He also tested other cars.

When asked about which cars outside of F1 interest him, Alonso mentioned driving the Aston Martin Valkyrie at the Paul Ricard circuit last month. 'It was a fun car, surprisingly fast at high speed and with a lot of downforce. In the FIA WEC, they use Michelin tires, which is a big plus; you can go all the way without restrictions like overheating, tire degradation or pressure,' he said. Alonso also described the Dakar Rally and rally sport as 'dancing with the car,' adding that Formula E's new all-wheel-drive car looked quite fast during testing for 2027.

However, Alonso emphasized that F1 remains the most attractive series for him. 'All the cars are fast and fun, but Formula 1 is very unique and still the pinnacle of motorsport. If we can overcome the current situation, that is, make up for this bad start and make the car competitive next season or even earlier, that would be an extremely attractive goal for me,' he stated.

‘'I never gave up'’

Alonso's most striking words, revealing his determination, were these: "I have never given up, and I will not give up now because of a few difficulties and a slow start. If anyone thinks we're going to give up in this situation, they don't know the last 25 years of my life." The two-time world champion, Alonso entered F1 in 2001 and has raced for many different teams throughout his career, including Renault, McLaren, Ferrari, and Racing Point/Aston Martin.
