Mercedes is exploring legal options for George Russell following the measurement system error that occurred at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Team principal Toto Wolff stated that they are discussing the matter with their lawyers and examining the options available to them.

Faulty measurement system caused chaos.

Five drivers were penalized at the Monaco GP for exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane. However, after the race, it emerged that these penalties were due to an error in the measurement system. Following this development, Alpine appealed Pierre Gasly's penalty, initiating a review. The FIA stewards' decision to reverse Gasly's penalty was the main factor that prompted Mercedes to take action. How Alpine won this review right This has been discussed in detail before.

Wolff: We are looking at the options we have.

Wolff stated that they are exploring what can be done for Russell and are actively discussing the matter with the team's lawyers. Mercedes' biggest obstacle is the strict time limits imposed in official appeals processes; however, the precedent set by the Gasly case keeps Wolff's hopes alive. McLaren and Red Bull also appealed the decision regarding Gasly. As it is recalled, several teams were engaged in similar pursuits after the Monaco GP.

The issue has gone beyond simply punishing one driver, becoming a landmark debate regarding F1 appeals procedures and the principle of fair play in systematic measurement errors. While it remains unclear whether Mercedes' legal action will be successful, Wolff's stance suggests the team will continue to keep the matter on the agenda.
