It's no longer a surprise that Pedro Acosta will officially join Ducati in the 2027 season; however, this transfer doesn't seem to be completely ending his relationship with KTM. It has been learned that the Austrian manufacturer plans to use the Spanish rider, whose contract is expiring, in testing their 850cc prototype for the upcoming season. Acosta has also shown a positive attitude towards this.

“"I'll do it if I get the chance."”

Acosta made a clear statement on the matter: He indicated that he is ready to take on the task if the opportunity arises and KTM requests it. This approach suggests that the relationship between the two parties could continue within a certain framework even after the transfer.

The 850cc era is approaching.

The shift to the 850cc engine class, brought about by MotoGP's new technical regulations, has prompted all manufacturers to accelerate their prototype development processes. KTM also places importance on the testing contributions of experienced riders in this process. In the 850cc tests conducted in Brno Pilots from other manufacturers had also taken to the track. Acosta's potential participation could give a significant boost to KTM's prototype program.

It should be noted that Acosta will continue racing with the KTM factory team throughout the 2026 season. While his transition for the new season is confirmed, his current obligations remain. In this context, his inclusion in the test program can be seen as a reflection of the manufacturer's desire to both accelerate the 850cc process and manage the rider transition in a smoother manner.

KTM has yet to issue an official statement on this matter. Acosta's announcement that it is open to testing is a significant signal that discussions between the two parties are ongoing.
