Marc Marquez won his third race of the 2026 MotoGP season, finishing first in the Czech Republic Grand Prix in Brno on Sunday. Ai Ogura of Trackhouse Aprilia finished second, and factory Ducati rider Pecco Bagnaia came in third. Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi failed to score any points after being suspended for Sunday's race for hitting a steward in Saturday's sprint; Marquez's lead has now shrunk from 102 points just a few races ago to 40 points.
How did the race develop?
Starting from pole position, Ogura was overtaken by the factory Ducati duo after the first few laps. Bagnaia maintained the lead, but Marquez overtook him with six laps to go. Ogura, with a strong pace in the later laps, dropped Bagnaia to third place; however, he couldn't catch up to leader Marquez. Pedro Acosta of KTM was forced to retire due to a technical problem on the last lap, and HRC rider Joan Mir took over the fifth position. VR46 Ducati rider Fabio di Giannantonio finished fourth. In the race, all riders except Mir opted for a medium compound for both front and rear tires; Mir took a risk with his soft rear tire left over from the sprint race.
Bezzecchi's suspension and Martin's missed opportunity
Bezzecchi was suspended for Sunday's race after hitting a steward during Saturday's sprint crash. This gave his closest rival and Aprilia teammate, Jorge Martin, the opportunity to take the championship lead. However, Martin received a double long lap penalty for triggering a five-rider crash at the Hungarian Grand Prix and could only finish ninth. Martin's gap to Bezzecchi narrowed to 8 points. Fabio di Giannantonio finished fourth, placing him between Martin and Marquez in the overall standings, while Acosta's retirement due to a technical issue allowed both Marquez and Brno runner-up Ogura to overtake him. Bagnaia, who won the sprint race, maintained his seventh position in the overall standings, closing the gap to the top drivers with 1-3 points.
