The Sprint race at Mugello saw one of the season's surprise contenders claim victory. Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez took the lead on the first lap and never relinquished it, securing his first Sprint win of 2026. The Spanish rider controlled the race from the front, delivering one of the most consistent performances of the weekend.

The championship standings are getting tight.

Second place on the podium went to Jorge Martin, who couldn't catch his teammate. Third place was secured by local hero Fabio Di Giannantonio, who recovered from a weak qualifying session. A crucial development for the championship occurred in fourth place: leader Marco Bezzecchi dropped points to his rivals by finishing 4th, reducing his overall lead over Martin to 12 points. Di Giannantonio retained his third place, closing the gap to Bezzecchi by one point.

Returning Marc Marquez finished 5th, scoring his first points since Jerez and showing promise in terms of both physical condition and race pace. Fermin Aldeguer (6th), Francesco Bagnaia (7th), Ai Ogura (8th), and Pedro Acosta (9th) completed the points zone. The surprise of the early race was rookie Diogo Moreira; starting from 8th, he climbed to 3rd after the first lap, but then couldn't maintain his pace, dropping to 10th and narrowly missing points. In his own words, he pushed too hard and too early – a trap often fallen into by rookies racing at the front.

The Toprak and Yamaha front

Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlıoğlu finished the Sprint in 17th place, just behind his teammate Jack Miller (16th). The best Yamaha was Alex Rins in 12th place, while 2021 champion Fabio Quartararo finished 14th, showing that the brand had a generally difficult weekend.

The championship standings have become extremely tight after the sprint: Bezzecchi is holding onto his lead, but Martin is breathing down his neck, with Di Giannantonio waiting in third place. Sunday's main race could dramatically change the points gap between these three.
