Champion rider Marc Marquez returned to MotoGP at the Italian Grand Prix after shoulder surgery and crowned his comeback with a strong weekend. Starting 14th in Friday's practice sessions, the Spaniard quickly found his rhythm and finished 4th in Saturday's qualifying, becoming the first Ducati rider right behind the Aprilia trio.

Physical examination: Is the nerve problem a persistent issue?

Marquez's return was not only fast but also physically reassuring. He stated that the nerve problem that affected his performance in previous legs of the season did not recur this weekend after surgery. Fourth place in the standings showed that his speed is still there, while also reminding us that the real issues are endurance and form.

Late for the championship, but right time for rhythm.

In the sprint race, Marquez finished 5th, scoring his first points since Jerez. This was a significant psychological and points gain after a long break. However, the price of his long absence from racing is clearly visible in the championship standings: Marquez is now 86 points behind leader Bezzecchi. This makes the fight for the 2026 title practically much more difficult; however, Marquez's main goal for now is to bring his rhythm and physical strength to full capacity.

Sunday's main race will be the real test of his comeback. The pace in qualifying was there; the sprint brought points. The question remains: how long will his shoulder and form last over the 23-lap Grand Prix? Mugello is a track where Marquez has had success in the past, and where he will measure his resurgence this season.
